THE QUALITY CRAFTSMEN'S
CHOICE: LODGEPOLE PINE |
WHY LODGEPOLE PINE? |
Lodgepole
Pine is a top choice of discerning craftsmen in fine log construction
of furniture, railings and decorative accents. The beautiful white natural
color lends itself to staining to whatever your desired finish color to
match any decor you choose. The low moisture content greatly reduces checking
and splitting. The aesthetic grain pattern enhances the finished appearance
of whatever stain tint you utilize. |
Lodgepole
Pine is a hardy slow-growth variety of the pine species, plentiful in
the Rocky Mountains, particularly here in Montana. Lodgepole Pine is characterized
by its attractive light color, small tight knots and ultra fine grain.
These characteristics, and excellent machining qualities, suit it ideally
to fine furniture and decorative accents. Another quality characteristic
of Lodgepole Pine is its tendency to elegantly age over time. In fine
rustic log furniture, the finish is sometimes described as having developed
a patina. This natural aging process assures the craftsman and customer
that a piece which they build or buy today, will in six months' time,
like a fine wine, ascend into the evolved beauty of the piece they have
crafted or purchased previously. Such aesthetic evolution distinguishes
the natural Lodgepole Pine product from the cheap quality and look of
veneers and 'stick-on' paper finishes commonly applied to lower grade
furnitures made of particle board, etc. |
Of
interesting note, Lodgepole was not only named by, but enamored of Native
Americans. They were quick to recognize not only does it grow straight
and tall, but it was strong and lightweight, making it the perfect construction
pole material for their winter "lodges". |
